The Palmhouse2026

The Palmhouse is an a cappella work for seven voices. Guided by a complex in-ear score, the singers pass rhythmic text along the line between them, words and syllables phasing and shifting against one another. As voices and meanings slip and overlap, a new text emerges from their interplay – one with a mystical intention of its own. Somewhere between Bob Cobbing, Chaucer and Steve Reich.

The piece expands on the approach developed for The Thicket.

Premiered at Bristol New Music, the Lantern, Bristol Beacon, 26 April 2026.

Performers: Harry Burgess, Felix Sarahsson, Verity Standen, Jo Hellier, Hannah Sullivan, Ben Kulvichit, Georgia Cusack
